Women Are Among the Lowest Paid Workers
Of the close to 7 million workers in the lowest-paid jobs (typically paying less than $10 per hour), 70% are women. Nearly one in three (32 percent) women in the low-wage workforce and one in four (25 percent) women in the lowest-paying jobs are supporting children. According to NPR, this group is hardest hit during national health and economic crises.
Women Need Safe, Affordable Housing
There was already an affordable housing crisis before the pandemic. Communities across the country are facing low-income housing shortages – there is not a single county in the United States that can fill 100% of its low-income population’s need for safe, affordable housing. According to the National Low Income Housing Coalition, there is a shortage of more than 7 million affordable homes for our nation’s 11 million extremely low income families.
