Hannah Home Residents Learning New Skills for New Lives

Make it your ambition to lead a quiet life, to mind your own business and to work with your hands, just as we told you, so that your daily life may win the respect of outsiders and so that you will not be dependent on anybody. I Thessalonians 4:11-12

Sewing ClassGod continues to bless us with capable volunteers willing to share their expertise to better other people’s lives. Several members of the Hannah Home Shelby Auxiliary who are expert seamstresses — Laverne Reese, Manda Umber and Mary Byrd — offer sewing and handwork classes to the Hannah Home residents every Monday.

One of the residents has literally turned her room into a sewing production center, with a sewing machine, ironing board, cutting table and wallboard to keep track of orders.

Bib and Burpie SetUnder the instructors’ careful supervision, the ladies are now making beautifully crafted baby bibs, burpies and oilcloth aprons for sale to local gift shops. Plain Jane’s Gifts in Lee Branch, Children’s Hospital Gift Shop, UAB Hospital Gift Shop and the Governor’s Mansion Gift Shop are now carrying our line of hand-made items.
